Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2014 will be held in New Delhi


Ministry for Overseas Indian Affairs announced that New Delhi will host the 12th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas to be held from January 7 to January 9, 2014. The theme of the event is - Engaging Diaspora – Connecting across Generations- with a special focus on the younger generation.


Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (English: Non-resident Indian Day), is celebrated in India on 9 January each year to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India. The day commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa in Bombay on January 9, 1915.



Mars mission control centre moves to ISTRAC


After putting the India’s maiden spacecraft to Mars into space from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, the control centre of the Mars Mission is now shifted to tracking centre-ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command network) in Bangalore.


Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), over the years, established a comprehensive network of ground stations to provide Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TTC) support to Satellite and Launch vehicle missions. These facilities are grouped under ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) with its headquarters at Bangalore, Karnataka State, INDIA.


ISTRAC has TTC ground stations at Bangalore, Lucknow, SHAR (Sriharikota), Thiruvananthapuram, Port Blair Island, Brunei, Biak (Indonesia) and Mauritius meeting international standards.



HRD Ministry gives approval to set up IIT, IIM, 3 central varsities in Seemandhra


The HRD ministry has given its approval to establish an IIT, an IIM and 3 central universities in Seemandhra. The decision would be placed before the GoM for consideration. The ministry has also cleared an IISER and an IIIT for the region.



Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed as Chairman & CEO of J&K Bank


Jammu and Kashmir Bank has reappointed Mushtaq Ahmad as its Chairman and CEO for a period of another three years. The Reserve Bank of India conveyed its approval to the reappointment of Mushtaq Ahmad as Chairman and CEO of the bank for a period of three years with effect from expiry of his present term on October 6, 2013



LIC Housing Finance Ltd has appointed Sunita Sharma as Managing Director and CEO


Sunita Sharma has been appointed as Managing Director and CEO of LIC Housing Finance Ltd with effect from November 5, 2013. Sunita was Executive Director of Investments at Life Insurance Corporation and was looking after the areas of equity research and risk management.
