India and Australia signed two agreements...


India and Australia on 18 November 2013 signed two agreements in New Delhi during the visit of Foreign Minister of Australia, Julie Bishop to India. She was on four days visit to India from 15 November to 18 November 2013.

Election Commission allowed the launch of 1st all-women Bharatiya Mahila Bank....


The Election Commission of India on 18 November 2013 has allowed the launch of the first all women Bharatiya Mahila Bank. The Government of India has organised the inauguration of the country’s first all women bank in Mumbai, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India.

Although, the government has been asked by the Election Commission not to open its branches in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh and neither do publicity of the bank in these poll-bound states. As it will be the violation of the Model Code of Conduct in force in the two places.

Headquartered in Delhi, the bank has proposed to have 25 branches by 31 March 2014. The Bank will be set up with the initial capital of 1000 crore rupees. The finance minister had announced the setting up of the all-woman bank in his Budget speech of 2013. The in-principal approval for the Bharatiya Mahila Bank was given by the Reserve Bank in June 2013. Usha Ananthasubramanian was appointed as the bank's Chairperson and Managing Director by the Government.

 

NASA Launched MAVEN Mission to study Mars Atmosphere......


The US space agency NASA on 18 November 2013 launched its MAVEN orbiter Mission to Mars planet. The orbiter mission was launched on an Atlas V rocket from Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 18:28 GMT.

The probe will have a 10-month cruise to the Red Planet- Mars. MAVEN is going to study Mars' atmosphere. During the course of the long cruise, Maven will perform four trajectory corrections, with the first scheduled to occur on 3rd December 2013.

About MAVEN Mission


The Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) mission is part of NASA's Mars Scout program. The mission will explore the Red Planet’s upper atmosphere, ionosphere and interactions with the sun and solar wind.

The trip to Mars takes 10 months, and MAVEN will go into orbit around Mars in September 2014. MAVEN will be the NASA’s first spacecraft mission dedicated to exploring the upper atmosphere of Mars.

Scientists will use MAVEN data to determine the role that loss of volatile from the Mars atmosphere to space has played through time, giving insight into the history of Mars' atmosphere and climate, liquid water, and planetary habitability. The entire MAVEN mission cost 671 million US Dollars.

 

National Integration Day observed on 19 November......


19 November: National Integration Day (Birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi)


National Integration Day is observed on 19 November 2013 all over India. It is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the first woman Prime Minister of the India, Indira Gandhi.

The National Integration day is celebrated to enhance the love and unity among people all across the India.

National Integration Day is celebrated every year in India by conducting variety of programmes and activities like Inter State Youth Exchange Programme (ISYEP), National Integration Camp (NIC), National Youth Festival, National Youth Award and etc.

Symposia, seminars, cultural activities are organized to deal with issues related to the national integration. Research activities and publications are held in the camp. Variety of community services are done by youths of different social backgrounds, regions, faiths and religions.

About Indira Gandhi

Indira Gandhi, the first woman Prime Minister of India, was born at 19th of November in the year 1917 in Allahabad. She was the daughter of the first Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. She got her higher education from the Vishwa Bharati University and Oxford.

She got married to the Feroze Gandhi in 1942 and got an opportunity to become Congress Working Committee member in the 1955.

Indira Gandhi was a great political leader and thus selected as President in the year 1959. She also became a Cabinet member of the Lal Bahadur Shastri as the Minister for Information. After the sudden death of the Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji in 1966 at Taskant, Russia, she was selected as the Prime Minister of India.

She played a major role in strengthening the Indian democratic structure and tradition. She handled the war of 1971 against Pakistan and won it. Signing of the Shimla Pact with Pakistani Premier Z.A. Bhutto, Indo-Soviet Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation was done under her leadership.

Under her leadership the first nuclear tests at Pokhran took place. First Asian Games in the New Delhi, first Astronaut Squadron Leader, Rakesh Sharma had went to the Space and the growth of the Indian Space Research and Peaceful Nuclear development gone under her proficient guidance.
She was very much interested in the music, literature and fine arts. She was awarded with the great Indian award, Bharat Ratna in 1971.

She has proved to be a fascinating leader of the modern India who has left an impression on the world affairs and the Non-alignment Movement. She was died on 31st of October in 1984 by the bullets of assassin at her residence.

 

World Toilet Day observed on 19 November.....


World Toilet Day – 19 November

The World Toilet Day (WTD) was observed across the world on 19 November 2013. In the world about a third of the world’s people don’t have an access to a decent toilet.

As per the United Nations about 2.5 billion people do not have an access to adequate sanitation and about 1 billion people practice open defecation, which contributes many diseases. Each year, more than 800000 children under 5 die from diarrhea, many due to poor sanitation.

About the World Toilet Day

In 2001 WTO declared 19 November World Toilet Day (WTD). It is celebrated in over 19 countries with over 51 events being hosted by various water and sanitation advocates on this day. The World Toilet Organization created World Toilet Day to raise global awareness of the struggle 2.5 billion face every day without access to proper, clean sanitation. World Toilet Day also brings to the forefront the health, emotional and psychological consequences the poor endure as a result of inadequate sanitation.

World Toilet Day popularity is gaining momentum, and in 2010 there were 51 events spanning 19 countries. The Big Squat campaign of the World Toilet Organization has generated 24 Big Squats globally and in Singapore over 600 squatters joined the cause in six locations island-wide.

World Toilet Summit

Earlier the World Toilet Summit in 2013 was observed from 2 to 4 October 2013 in Central Java, Indonesia. The 13th session of the World Toilet Summit was held in support of the World Toilet Organization and the Indonesia Toilet Association (ATI), and supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Public Works and the Government of Surakarta.

The World Toilet Summit is an annual event, which is organized by the World Toilet Organization in partnership with a host government, since 2001. The summit has been held in 10 countries across the world namely Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Ireland, Russia, Thailand, India, USA and South Africa. The inaugural World Toilet Summit was held in Singapore in 2001.

Birth of Cinema by N Gopal Krishna 
The book entitled Birth of Cinema written by N. Gopal Krishna was released at ICFFI media centre by a Journalist T. Udayawarluon 18 November 2013. The book comprises of details related to the advanced cinematic technologies like the 3D shootings and Voice enhancements and others, which were popularized by the Hollywood directors.

He is a film maker of Andhra Pradesh. During the launch, he said that the Government patronization of the children films, which should be in the form of providing cinema halls, publicity and lower entertainment tax.

 

Reserve Bank of India extended a refinance window of 5000 crore for the MSME.....


The Reserve Bank of India on 18 November 2013 opened a 5000 crore rupees refinance window for MSME sector, for a period of one year to ease the liquidity. The view of easing the liquidity stress to the Micro and Small Enterprises sector was taken by the RBI to provide refinance to the small Industrial Development Bank of India.

Basically the Micro and Small Enterprises sector is employment intensive and contributes significantly to exports. At present, the slowdown in the economy has resulted in the liquidity tightness in the MSEs in the manufacturing and services sector raising the need of liquidity support. The availability of the refinance facility will be till 13 November 2014

 

Angela Merkel, German Chancellor selected for Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace 2013 ....


Dr. Angela Merkel, German Chancellor on 19 November 2013 selected for Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for the year 2013.

The International Jury for the Prize was chaired by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, which made this announcement on 19 November 2013 on the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.

Dr. Angela Merkel is nominated for her exemplary leadership in Europe and the world during the financial crises, her commitment to universal peace and disarmament and her leadership role in strengthening productive and mutually beneficial relations with India and other developing countries.

• Angela Dorothea Kasner, better known as Angela Merkel, was born in Hamburg, West Germany, on 17 July 1954. Trained as a physicist, Merkel entered politics after the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall.

• Rising to the position of Chairwoman of the Christian Democratic Union party, Merkel became Germany’s first female chancellor, and one of the leading figures of the European Union, following the 2005 national elections.

• The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development was instituted (in 1986) in the name of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. It celebrates the values that she stood and fought for in the service of our nation and its people.

• The award is conferred upon the person or an organisation irrespective of race, religion, nationality or other aspects. It consists of award worth 2.5 million Rupees as well as trophy along with citation.

Iran unveiled New Biggest Drone with 2000Km Range....


Iran on 18 November 2013 unveiled a biggest missile-equipped drone with a range of 2000 km, which would enable it to cover much of the Middle East, including Israel.

The drone named Fotros has an operational range of 2000 kilometres and can fly at an altitude of 25000 feet, with a flight time of 16 to 30 hours. The drone could carry out reconnaissance missions or launch air-to-surface missile strikes.

In September 2013, Iran announced the mass production of the Shahed 129 drone, which it said has a range of 1700 kilometres, is capable of carrying eight missiles and can fly for 24 hours. In the same month, Iran unveiled a reconnaissance drone named Yasseer, which was said to be capable of flying for eight hours with a range of 200 kilometres and at an altitude of 4500 meters.

Yasseer was based on the US ScanEagle drone, a model of which Tehran claimed to have captured in December 2012 and reproduced since then. The Iranian army also recently claimed that it was producing a series of drones called Rad-85.

 

Mangalore University Presented with Indira Gandhi NSS Best University Award 2012-13.....


President of India Pranab Mukherjee on 19 November 2013 presented Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Best University Award 2012-13 to Mangalore University of Karnataka.

Mangalore University is fourth in the row of universities winning Indira Gandhi NSS Award in Karnataka. Prior to this university, RGUHS, Bangalore University, and UAS Dharwad had received this award.

The award comprises a memento and a citation along with a cash prize of 2 lakh Rupees.

President of India also gave NSS Best Plus 2 Council Award for 2012-13 to Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, Thiruvananthpuram while Upcoming University Award was presented to Kumaun University, Nainital. The awards are given to educational institutions, faculty and students for their contribution in various beneficial and voluntary activities.

The awards were presented on the occasion of National Integration Day (19 November 2013) at a function in Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi. National Integration Day is the Birth anniversary of the first woman Prime Minister of the India, Indira Gandhi.
