18th International Children Film Festival of India


The 18th International Children Film Festival of India (ICFFI) was inaugurated on 15 November, 2013 at – Hyderabad (Out of the 18 ICFFIs held, Hyderabad has got the unique distinction of hosting this festival for nine times. ICFFI 2013 has been organized at Hyderabad’s Lalitha Kala Thoranam. Kauwboy, a Dutch film about a 10-year-old boy and a bird directed by Boudewijn Koole, won the Golden Elephant Award for best film in the 'International Live Action' category at the 18th International Children's Film Festival

Who was elected as the new President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on 15 November, 2013? – Craig Reedie of Britain (Reedie, an IOC vice president from Britain, was the only candidate to succeed former Australian politician John Fahey. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is an independent foundation created through a collective initiative led by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was set up on November 10, 1999 in Lausanne, Switzerland, as a result of what was called the "Declaration of Lausanne”. Headquarters - Montreal, Quebec.

13th november 2013-Daily current affair

Industrial production grew by 2 percent in September 2013...


The Industrial Production output grew by 2 percent in September 2013 mainly on account of better performance by power and mining sectors. The growth in the output of the industrial production is showing the signs of recovery. The factory output was measured in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had contracted by 0.7 per cent in September 2012.

Meanwhile, the IIP for August 2013 has revised to 0.43 percent from the provisional estimate of 0.6 percent.

Ratan Watal appointed as the new Expenditure Secretary ..


Ratan P Watal, a senior IAS officer was appointed as the Secretary of Department of Expenditure in the Union Ministry of Finance on 11 November 2013. He will be a successor of RS Gujral, an officer of the 1979 of Haryana cadre, who will retire from the post on 30 November 2013.

Ratan P Watal is an IAS officer of 1978 batch of Andhra Pradesh Cadre. At present he is serving as the Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Meanwhile, he has been appointed in the Department of Expenditure with immediate effect as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

India and Japan decided to strengthen their Cooperation in the Maritime Sector...


India and Japan on 9 November 2013 decided to further strengthen their cooperation in the maritime sector as a part of the overall robust bilateral relations. The two countries agreed to enhance their interaction through the existing forums and through port-to-port exchanges. This was decided during the visit of Union Minister of Shipping G.K. Vasan, to Japan.
India explained the developments that were taking place in its Ports sector and assured Japan that concerns regarding infrastructure and connectivity of ports are being addressed expeditiously. The ports in Ennore and Chennai are catering to the Japanese car exporters like Toyota and Nissan who have so far exported about 42000 and 300000 cars respectively from these ports.

India and Kuwait signed five pacts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in Culture and Education..


India and Kuwait on 8 November 2013 agreed to expand cooperation in key areas, which includes energy and investment. Five pacts were signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in culture and education during the India visit of the Prime Minister of Kuwait, HH Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

During this India visit of the Kuwait Prime Minister to India five documents were signed including an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons, cooperation in the field of sports and youth affairs and exchange of cultural and information programmes, besides cooperation in the field of education. 1 ) Tarla Dalal, the Celebrity Cook of India, Passed Away at 77


Tarla Dalal, one of the first celebrity chefs of India as well as prolific cookbook writer died on 6 November 2013 due to heart attack in Mumbai. She was 77 years old and is survived by three children. She authored more than 100 cookbooks which sold three million copies. Her website tarladalal.com is the largest food website of Asia.

• Tarla Dalal was born in the year 1936 in Pune, India.
• She was a renowned Indian chef, food writer, host of various cooking shows as well as best-selling cookbook author.
• Her first cookbook was entitled The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking, which was published in the year 1974.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2014 will be held in New Delhi


Ministry for Overseas Indian Affairs announced that New Delhi will host the 12th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas to be held from January 7 to January 9, 2014. The theme of the event is - Engaging Diaspora – Connecting across Generations- with a special focus on the younger generation.


Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (English: Non-resident Indian Day), is celebrated in India on 9 January each year to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India. The day commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa in Bombay on January 9, 1915.



Mars mission control centre moves to ISTRAC


After putting the India’s maiden spacecraft to Mars into space from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, the control centre of the Mars Mission is now shifted to tracking centre-ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command network) in Bangalore.

1. India, Vietnam sign pact on transfer of sentenced prisoners : India and Vietnam signed a treaty for transfer of prisoners between two countries. The agreement was signed between Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Vietnam Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang.


2. Wholly owned subsidiaries of foreign banks to get near-national treatment : RBI plans to release guidelines for foreign banks to set up wholly owned subsidiaries in India by mid-November, the central bank said on Tuesday.



3. Six Major Central Banks Permanently Made Currency Swap Accords: Six major central banks in the world made currency swap arrangements permanent on 31 October 2013 as a prudent liquidity backstop  in case of future global financial strains.

4. Google announces winners of its Global Impact Challenge in India : Google had awarded Rs 3 crore to four social organisations that are using technology to solve problems of the world.
