1. India successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable Dhanush ballistic missile from a naval ship off Odisha coast on Saturday.

Hamid Ansari, the Vice President of India on 21 November 2013 released a book entitled Maimaar-E-Qaun-Dr. A. R. Kidwai. The book has been edited by Mufti Ataur Rahman Ansari.

Dr A.R. Kidwai has been compiled in the book creatively. He was a learned scientist and served as a professor at Aligarh Muslim University. He contributed in the formation of Mewat Development Board in Haryana

India and Vietnam signed eight agreements....


India and Vietnam signed eight agreements on 20 November 2013 in areas of defence and security, oil exploration, civil aviation and scientific research. India will also assist Vietnam in the modernization and training of the defence and security forces of Vietnam and agreed to give a 100 million dollar line of credit to Vietnam for defence purchases.

The agreements were signed by Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong in New Delhi after delegation level talks.

Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro got Special Powers....


Nicolas Maduro, the President of Venezuela on 19 November 2013 got the final approval to special powers by Venezuela National Assembly. Because of this approval, Maduro will be able to govern without consulting the congress for 12 years.

The new powers assigned to the power will help him to tackle corruption and the economic crisis of the country. Presently, Venezuela is facing the shortages of food and other essential goods, power cuts and inflation about 54 percent.

18th International Children Film Festival of India


The 18th International Children Film Festival of India (ICFFI) was inaugurated on 15 November, 2013 at – Hyderabad (Out of the 18 ICFFIs held, Hyderabad has got the unique distinction of hosting this festival for nine times. ICFFI 2013 has been organized at Hyderabad’s Lalitha Kala Thoranam. Kauwboy, a Dutch film about a 10-year-old boy and a bird directed by Boudewijn Koole, won the Golden Elephant Award for best film in the 'International Live Action' category at the 18th International Children's Film Festival

Who was elected as the new President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on 15 November, 2013? – Craig Reedie of Britain (Reedie, an IOC vice president from Britain, was the only candidate to succeed former Australian politician John Fahey. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is an independent foundation created through a collective initiative led by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). 33rd India International Trade Fair opened at New Delhi...


The 33rd India International Trade Fair began at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on 14 November 2013. President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the India International Trade Fair (IITF). The trade fair aimed to spur international trade while highlighting India's economic growth. The Theme of IITF 2013 is Inclusive Growth. The 14-day event scheduled from 14 to 27 th November 2013. About 6000 exhibitors including 250 from foreign countries are participating in the fair. This year Japan is a partner country and South Africa, the focus country. While Bihar is a partner state, Odisha is the focus state. About India International Trade Fair The trade fair is organized by the India Trade Promotion Organization, and the fair is housed at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Prasar Bharti and Radio-Television of Slovenia inked Broadcasting MoU ..


Prasar Bharati, the India's public broadcaster, and the Radio-Television of Slovenia (RTV-SLO) on 13 November 2013 signed an MoU in the field of broadcasting. This will help to develop and strengthen the mutual friendly relations through an increased cooperation in broadcasting.

The signed MoU allow to explore the opportunities in potential projects of production programs, further. It also allows the exchange of programs in the field of culture, entertainment, education, sports and news.

Industrial production grew by 2 percent in September 2013...


The Industrial Production output grew by 2 percent in September 2013 mainly on account of better performance by power and mining sectors. The growth in the output of the industrial production is showing the signs of recovery. The factory output was measured in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had contracted by 0.7 per cent in September 2012.

Meanwhile, the IIP for August 2013 has revised to 0.43 percent from the provisional estimate of 0.6 percent.

Ratan Watal appointed as the new Expenditure Secretary ..


Ratan P Watal, a senior IAS officer was appointed as the Secretary of Department of Expenditure in the Union Ministry of Finance on 11 November 2013. He will be a successor of RS Gujral, an officer of the 1979 of Haryana cadre, who will retire from the post on 30 November 2013.

Ratan P Watal is an IAS officer of 1978 batch of Andhra Pradesh Cadre. At present he is serving as the Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Meanwhile, he has been appointed in the Department of Expenditure with immediate effect as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

National Education Day of India Observed Across the Country on 11 November ....


The National Education Day of India was celebrated on 11 November 2013 at Gangtok, Sikkim. The National Education Day has been celebrated in India since the year 2008. It is celebrated to commemorate the anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a great freedom fighter, an eminent educationist and the first Education Minister of India. It was also celebrated at Mewat in 2008.

India and Japan decided to strengthen their Cooperation in the Maritime Sector...


India and Japan on 9 November 2013 decided to further strengthen their cooperation in the maritime sector as a part of the overall robust bilateral relations. The two countries agreed to enhance their interaction through the existing forums and through port-to-port exchanges. This was decided during the visit of Union Minister of Shipping G.K. Vasan, to Japan.
India explained the developments that were taking place in its Ports sector and assured Japan that concerns regarding infrastructure and connectivity of ports are being addressed expeditiously. The ports in Ennore and Chennai are catering to the Japanese car exporters like Toyota and Nissan who have so far exported about 42000 and 300000 cars respectively from these ports.

India and Kuwait signed five pacts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in Culture and Education..


India and Kuwait on 8 November 2013 agreed to expand cooperation in key areas, which includes energy and investment. Five pacts were signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in culture and education during the India visit of the Prime Minister of Kuwait, HH Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

During this India visit of the Kuwait Prime Minister to India five documents were signed including an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons, cooperation in the field of sports and youth affairs and exchange of cultural and information programmes, besides cooperation in the field of education. Union Cabinet approved the Visa Waiver Agreements with Poland, Slovenia and Lithuania


The Union Cabinet on 7 November 2013 approved the visa waiver agreements with Poland, Slovenia and Lithuania. This move will help the Indians with diplomatic passports to visit the three countries. The agreements would be signed very soon.

The CCEA (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs) cleared a proposal to disinvest 17 percent of paid up capital for Follow on Public Offering (FPO) of the state owned power grid corporation of India. As per the Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, 13 percent of fresh equity by the Public Sector Company and 4 percent stake sale by the government includes under the FPO.

1 ) Tarla Dalal, the Celebrity Cook of India, Passed Away at 77


Tarla Dalal, one of the first celebrity chefs of India as well as prolific cookbook writer died on 6 November 2013 due to heart attack in Mumbai. She was 77 years old and is survived by three children. She authored more than 100 cookbooks which sold three million copies. Her website tarladalal.com is the largest food website of Asia.

• Tarla Dalal was born in the year 1936 in Pune, India.
• She was a renowned Indian chef, food writer, host of various cooking shows as well as best-selling cookbook author.
• Her first cookbook was entitled The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking, which was published in the year 1974.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2014 will be held in New Delhi


Ministry for Overseas Indian Affairs announced that New Delhi will host the 12th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas to be held from January 7 to January 9, 2014. The theme of the event is - Engaging Diaspora – Connecting across Generations- with a special focus on the younger generation.


Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (English: Non-resident Indian Day), is celebrated in India on 9 January each year to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India. The day commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa in Bombay on January 9, 1915.



Mars mission control centre moves to ISTRAC


After putting the India’s maiden spacecraft to Mars into space from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, the control centre of the Mars Mission is now shifted to tracking centre-ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command network) in Bangalore.

India successfully launched its Maiden Mars Mission from Sriharikota

India's premier space agency, ISRO, on 5 November 2013 successfully launched its historic mission to Mars from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, about 100km from Chennai. It was India’s first mission to the red planet. The mission follows India’s successful 2008-2009 Chandrayaan-1 moon probe, which discovered water molecules in the lunar soil. The total cost of the Mars mission is 73 million US dollars.

IICT, Hyderabad received samples for detection of Chemical Weapons from OPCW

The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, recently received over 50 samples for detection of chemical weapons from the Organisation for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The samples in the form of soil, water and organic solvents were sent twice a year since 2008 when IICT attained the status of designated laboratory for off-site analysis of weapons.

FDI inflows into the Service Sector declined by 47.5 Percent

As per the data released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) on 4 November 2013, Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into the service sector declined by 47.5 percent to 1.19 billion US dollars during the April-August 2013 period. The service sector, which includes banking, insurance, outsourcing, R&D, courier and technology testing, had received FDI (foreign direct investment) worth 2.28 billion US dollars in April-August 2012 period. The services sector contributes over 60 percent to India’s GDP.
